LVCSD Pre-Kindergarten Program: The Locust Valley Central School District (LVCSD) will be offering a full day (9:25 a.m.- 2:25 p.m.), 5-day a week, tuition-free Pre-Kindergarten program for eligible 4-year-old children for the 2025-26 school year, pending grant funding. This program is being funded through Pre-K grant funds awarded to LVCSD by the New York State Education Department.

Age and Residency Requirements: To apply, students must reside within the LVCSD attendance area and must be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2025. Students who are age eligible for kindergarten cannot apply for the Pre-K lottery as per NYSED regulations. One entry per eligible child is allowed. For twins/multiples, complete ONLY ONE application and include both/all names.

Locations and Total Number of Spots: There are a total of 36 slots for Pre-K students available in the LVCSD lottery.

• Ann MacArthur Primary School: 18 slots

• Bayville Primary School: 18 slots

Transportation: Transportation will NOT be provided.

How does the lottery work?

1. Each family who registers an eligible pre-k child will get a lottery number.

2. These numbers will be pulled during our pre-k lottery drawing.

3. If a set of twins or multiples is entered into the lottery, we will adjust the number of guaranteed spots until we determine the number of students. For example, if there is a set of twins, we would begin the wait list at spot 17.

4. Parents will receive a welcome email if their child/children is/are selected for one of the 36 placements. This letter will detail the registration and confirmation process.

Forms will be found above on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024. You may complete the forms and submit them electronically. For those families that prefer to complete the forms on hard copies, the packets may be picked up at the Administration Building at 22 Horse Hollow Road in Locust Valley.

Please be sure to attach a copy of your child’s birth/baptismal certificate or passport to certify proof of age.

• Children eligible for September 2025 universal prekindergarten must be four years old on or before Dec. 1, 2025. The lottery registration will open online on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 and remain open through Monday, Dec. 16, 2024. The lottery for the Pre-K program will take place on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025.

Proof of residency is required even if you already have other children in our school district. Without the proper required documents, we will not be able to process your registration.

Children will not be admitted to our schools until all required immunizations are complete and the physical examination form, signed by a New York State physician, is returned.

The Locust Valley Central School District affirms that its primary responsibility is to provide the best possible educational opportunities for those children who are legal district residents. Students who are determined not to be legal residents of the school district shall be removed pursuant to Board Policy and State Education Law.  The parents and/or legal guardians of students who are found to have attended Locust Valley Schools illegally shall be charged tuition for the time that they have been found not to be valid residents of the district.
