Kathleen Reilly was recently appointed as the new assistant principal of Locust Valley Intermediate School in the Locust Valley Central School District. Ms. Reilly is no stranger to the district. She has been a hardworking and active member of the Locust Valley faculty for more than 20 years.
Ms. Reilly has served as a social studies teacher since 2007 at the high school level and then the middle school level. In 2013, she was appointed as the Locust Valley Middle School dean where she was responsible for the safety, behavior and holistic education of all students. Last year, Ms. Reilly took on a new role as the acting assistant principal at Locust Valley Middle School from January-June. She continued her leadership during the summer months, serving as the coordinator of the summer academic program for grades K-8 at Ann MacArthur Primary School.
Ms. Reilly has championed through the COVID-19 pandemic in her administrative roles. Among her many other responsibilities as acting assistant principal, she maintained weekly scheduling and screening of the COVID-19 student survey and oversaw contract tracing. As the coordinator of the summer academic program, one of her many responsibilities was coordinating bus transportation and ensuring that COVID-19 guidelines were being followed.
In addition, Ms. Reilly is heavily involved in student programs. She was previously the Locust Valley Middle School Student Government adviser, the eighth grade class adviser and the middle school facilitator. Ms. Reilly is currently a curriculum writer and serves as the middle school girls lacrosse and field hockey coach and supervisor.
She is honored to be taking on the new role as assistant principal at the Locust Valley Intermediate School.
“By taking the LVI position I am hoping to continue to give back to the students, the staff and the community that has given me so much,” Ms. Reilly said. “From the beginning of my teaching career, I have always based my decisions on ‘what is in the best interest of the child?’ I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and respected staff. I look forward to collaborating with my staff, the community and the administration.”
Ms. Reilly received her Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Oneonta. She then earned her master degree in history and Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from LIU Post.
The Locust Valley Central School District is confident that Ms. Reilly will be an asset to Locust Valley Intermediate School and looks forward to seeing her continue to grow in her new role.
