Locust Valley Elementary Students Enjoy Breakfast With Family and Learn to Plant Pumpkins

Last week was an exciting one at Ann MacArthur Primary and Locust Valley Intermediate, as students celebrated Bring an Adult to Breakfast Week and first and second grade students learned how to plant pumpkins.

Throughout the week, students at both schools enjoyed the company of their loved ones over breakfast in the school cafeterias, and purchased tote bags and T-shirts from the Locust Valley Elementary Parents Council.

With the help of a representative from the Cornell Cooperative Extension, first and second graders at Ann MacArthur Primary learned about the pumpkin growing process. The guest expert first read the book, “The Pie That Molly Grew,” going through the steps from planting to watering and harvesting, and then helped students plant a pumpkin seed in a cup with soil. With care and attention, the mini-pumpkins should be grown just in time for fall.
